V Európe azda nejestvujú geograficky i historicky také dve blízke mestá, ako sú Bratislava a Viedeň. Dlho nás delili odlišné politické systémy a z našej strany aj ploty z ostnatého drôtu. Dnes, tak ako pred druhou svetovou vojnou, sme voči sebe otvorení a Viedeň nám ponúka svoje početné múzeá, galérie s bohatými zbierkami a výstavami svetových umelcov, stavebné a historické pamiatky... A k nim sa viažu aj mnohé staré pôvabné príbehy, ktoré rozprávajú o tajuplných miestach i podivuhodných udalostiach, o ľuďoch s neobyčajnými schopnosťami i čudákoch, o čertoch i zbojníkoch, o figúrkach i hrdinoch, čo sa postavili proti rôznym zloduchom, pliagam či Turkom. Napokon treba dodať, že knihu robí príťažlivou nielen autorkino rozprávanie, ale pôsobivú atmosféru dotvárajú vtipné ilustrácie na vynikajúcej výtvarnej úrovni.
