Laurence van Cott Niven je americký autor science fiction. Jeho patrně nejznámějším románem je Prstenec z roku 1970, oceněný Hugem, Nebulou a Locusem. V roce 1962 získal na univerzitě v Kansas City bakalářský titul z matematiky.

Pierson¿s puppeteers, strange, three-legged, two-headed aliens, have discovered an immense structure in a hitherto unexplored part of the universe.
