Jak už je pro Michaela Moorea,jakožto zarytého odpůrce George Bushe mladšího, typické, jedná se především o dopisy plné strachu, frustrace, pláče a bolesti na straně jedné, ale také naděje a modliteb na straně druhé. Výsledkem toho je kniha plná vášní, zloby a dojetí nad osudy vojáků, lživými masmédii, prolhaným Bushem a scestnou americkou vnitřní i zahraniční politikou a společností obecně. Neboť právě ona americká hrdost a dějiny vedou dle znění knihy k tomu, že se současný americký prezident stále častěji uchyluje k použití síly při řešení mezinárodních bezpečnostních otázek. Kniha je složena ze čtyř částí. První z nich tvoří dopisy vojáků sloužících v Iráku, těch, kteří tam sloužili, i těch, kteří se tam chystají, druhou dopisy od amerických vojáků z celého světa.
