Humfrey ist einer der wenigen »lrrzeiter«, die sich den Schneid nicht abkaufen lassen. Ihm gelingt die Flucht, und er schlägt sich in diesem fremden Universum mit seinen unverständlichen Wundern und Einrichtungen nach England durch, das freilich auch ein völlig anderes geworden ist, doch dort gibt es immer noch einige Dinge, die sich seit Liz I. nicht geändert haben.
