Mason Funk sa narodil v Los Angeles v roku 1958 a po absolvovaní Stanfordovej univerzity žil na viacerých miestach, kým sa nevrátil do Los Angeles a nezačal svoju kariéru oceňovaného spisovateľa a producenta. Jeho televízne a filmové projekty pokrývali širokú škálu tém, od Matky Terezy po históriu tajných nahrávok v Bielom dome. V roku 2016 založil organizáciu OUTWORDS, ktorá sa zameriava na zachytenie nadčasových príbehov priekopníkov a starších členov LGBTQ komunity.
