Vyšiel v preklade Juraja Vojteka, ktorý Saroyanovej tvorbe venoval podstatnú časť svojej prekladateľskej aktivity. Prvých sedem poviedok sa do tohto výberu dostalo z druhej Saroyanovej zbierky poviedok -Volajú ma Aram (My Name Is Aram, 1940). Medzičasom, najmä po roku 1989, vyšlo sedem ďalších výberov z množstva autorových krátkych próz (Saroyan napísal vyše dvetisíc poviedok). Ako celok však poviedková kniha Volajú ma Aram vychádza v slovenčine prvý raz. Až teraz má slovenský čitateľ možnosť vychutnať dielo ako komponovaný celok, v takej podobe, v akej ho predložil vydavateľovi autor, a to aj s autorskou úvodnou Poznámkou. Poviedky ako Granátovníky, Traja plavci a obchodník, ktorý mal diplom z Yale, Roztomilý staromódny románik s galantnými básničkami a vôbec so všetkým, Leto na prekrásnom bielom tátošovi patria k najznámejším a najprekladanejším autorovým prózam. Hlavnými hrdinami sú v nich deti arménskych prisťahovalcov v Kalifornii. Práve týmto dielkom s osobitou, slnkom prežiarenou atmosférou, vzdal spisovateľ hold životnej filozofii a duchu svojich rodákov, ktorí aj v nových podmienkach vedeli zostať sami sebou. William Saroyan (1908 - 1981), americký spisovateľ arménskeho pôvodu, sa narodil v kalifornskom Fresne. Ako trojročnému mu zomrel otec, a hoci bol najmladší, musel pomáhať matke starať sa o päťčlennú rodinu. Vyrastal v zmiešanom mnohonárodnostnom prostredí a veľmi skoro sa začal venovať literatúre. Nezabudnuteľná zostáva najmä jeho prvá kniha Odvážny mladý muž na lietajúcej hrazde (1933).
