Die Sioux, die sich in der Prärie ansiedelten unterteilten sich in verschiedene Indianerstämme und Völker, die jedoch alle durch eine gemeinsame Sprache verwandt waren. Zur Kultur beider Stämme gehörte das Kriegshandwerk, das sie in diversen Kriegszügen ausübten.
