Když apoštol Pavel v 11. kapitole listu Římanům představuje Boží plán s Izraelem a ostatními národy, vykresluje ho pomocí obrazu ušlechtilé olivy a nazývá jej „tajemstvím“. Naprosto uchvácen Boží moudrostí volá: „Jak nesmírná je hloubka Božího bohatství, jeho moudrosti i vědění!Jak nevyzpytatelné jsou jeho soudy a nevystopovatelné jeho cesty! Kdo poznal mysl Hospodinovu a kdo se stal jeho rádcem?“ (Ř 11,33–34). Autor se ve své knize snaží toto velké tajemství poodhalit.

When the apostle Paul, in Romans chapter 11, introduces the plan of God with Israel and the nations, he portrays the image of an olive tree and calls it 'The Mystery'. He is so astonished by the wisdom of God that he cries out: 'Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
