Avšak práve jedna z dcér, ktorá u nej slúžila, stáva sa jej osudnou, keď sa usiluje odhaliť jej pestrú minulosť, Roxana, pod týmto menom ju poznal celý Londýn, žije teraz ako počestná manželka bohatého bohatého obchodníka. Odchádzajú spolu do Holandska, kde po niekoľkých navonok šťastných rokoch a manželovej smrti opäť upadá do biedy, končí vo väzení kajúcne umiera.

Šťastné i nešťastné zážitky chýrečnej Moll Flandersovej, ktorá sa narodila v newgatskej väznici a nerátajúc detstvo, za šesťdesiat rokov prepestrého života, dvanásť rokov bola milostnicou, päťkrát sa vydala (z toho raz za svojho brata), dvanásť rokov bola zlodejkou, osem rokov žila vo Virgínii deportovaná za krádeže, napokon zbohatla a zomrela ako kajúcnica. Konečným cílem této pilné a usilovné práce je však zbohatnutí, založení kolonie. Při tom proces hromadění bohatství a kolonisace je vylíčen idealisticky, jako výsledek pouhé píle a přičinlivosti, prosté vykořisťování. Proto K. Marx označoval pokusy buržoasních ekonomiků vylíčit hromadění kapitálu jako výsledek pracovitosti měšťáků za "robinsonády".
