Avšak práve jedna z dcér, ktorá u nej slúžila, stáva sa jej osudnou, keď sa usiluje odhaliť jej pestrú minulosť, Roxana, pod týmto menom ju poznal celý Londýn, žije teraz ako počestná manželka bohatého bohatého obchodníka. Odchádzajú spolu do Holandska, kde po niekoľkých navonok šťastných rokoch a manželovej smrti opäť upadá do biedy, končí vo väzení kajúcne umiera.
