Slnko v znamení jaguára vyšlo po autorovej smrti a obsahuje tri z pôvodne zamýšľaných piatich poviedok, ktoré chcel autor vydať pod názvom Päť zmyslov. Poviedky o hmate a zraku už nestihol napísať. V troch majstrovských rozprávačských variáciách na tému čuchu, chuti a sluchu sa hlavní hrdinovia pokúšajú vyrovnať sa s hroziacou stratou prostredníctvom jedného zo zmyslov.

V tvorbe Itala Calvina značí kniha Keď cestujúci jednej zimnej noci jeho znovuzrodenie. Po nádhernom uvoľnení v Neviditeľných mestách, po siedmich rokoch mlčania, sa roku 1979 opäť vracia s celou svojou naratívnou mohutnosťou, až priveľkou, keďže v románe nájdeme až desať začiatočných kapitol románov, úplne rozdielnych, na pozadí pospájaných červenou nitkou príbehu, ktorý nás sprevádza dobrodružstvami Čitateľky a Čitateľa od jednej kapitoly po druhú, no vždy sa zakrátko skončí. Experimentálny a kombinačný spôsob písania, veľmi výrazný v knihe Zámok skrížených, osudov, ale už značne utlmený v Neviditeľných mestách, sa tu takmer celý odhaľuje v nespútanej fantázii, ktorá nepozná hranice ani času, ani priestoru, len rozkoš z rozprávania, ktorú len horko-ťažko drží na uzde intelektuálna vôľa, ktorá váhavo zasahuje hlboko do štruktúry románu. Frustrácia, ktorú Calvino núti prežívať Čitateľa i Čitateľku, keď sa príbehy napísané s ohromujúcim majstrovstvom nečakane končia, sa prenáša aj na nás, vždy podliehame očakávaniu, ktoré autor zakaždým pripraví, ktoré však zlomyseľne odmieta naplniť. Sám Calvino definoval toto svoje dielo ako „román o rozkoši z čítania", no rovnako sa v ňom prejavuje aj jemná a ľahká radosť z písania, ba možno aj zo života, ktorá nezmazateľným spôsobom poznačila poslednú fázu jeho výnimočnej literárnej tvorby.

Druhá (Rozpůlený vikomt, 1952) líčí vikomta, kterého dělová koule za rakousko-turecké vojny rozdělila na část dobrou a zlou. Souborné vydání 32 různorodých povídek známého italského autora z let 1945-1958. Jedná se o první svazek původního autorského souboru Povídky vydaného v roce 1958, zahrnuté texty jsou tematicky i stylisticky velmi různorodé.
