    Ferdinand Christian Baur bol nemecký protestantský teológ a zakladateľ a vodca Tübingenskej školy teológie. Nadväzujúc na Hegelovu teóriu dialektiky Baur argumentoval, že kresťanstvo druhého storočia predstavovalo syntézu dvoch protichodných téz: židovského kresťanstva (petrovského kresťanstva) a pohanského kresťanstva (pavlovského kresťanstva). Toto a ďalšia Baurúv práca mala hlboký dopad na vyššiu kritiku biblických a súvisiacich textov.
