    George Augustus Moore bol írsky románopisec, poviedkar, básnik, výtvarný kritik, pamätník a dramatik. Pôvodne sa chcel stať maliarom a v 70. rokoch 19. storočia študoval umenie v Paríži, kde sa spriatelil s poprednými francúzskymi umelcami a spisovateľmi. Ako naturalistický autor absorboval lekcie francúzskych realistov, najmä Émila Zolu, a ovplyvnil Jamesa Joycea. Mooreovo dielo je často považované za prvé veľké moderné írske románové dielo.
