    Tento plodný autor detektívnych románov sa preslávil najmä svojimi dvoma hlavnými sériami. Jedna pod pseudonymom John Rhode predstavila forenzného vedca Dr. Priestleyho, ktorý využíval vedecké metódy na riešenie zločinov, ako napríklad analýzu blata na topánkach podozrivých. Druhá séria, napísaná ako Miles Burton, predstavila amatérskeho detektíva Desmonda Merriona spolupracujúceho so Scotland Yardom. Kritici zaradili autora do „humdrum“ školy detektívnej fikcie, ktorá sa vyznačovala dôrazom na zložité zápletky a hádanky, čím sa podobala krížovkám.
