Jules Laforgue bol francúzsky básnik, ktorého dielo je často označované ako symbolistické a impresionistické. Bol jedným z prvých francúzskych básnikov píšucich voľným veršom, silne ovplyvnený Waltom Whitmanom. Jeho filozofické presvedčenie bolo hlboko formované Schopenhauerom a Von Hartmannom. Laforgueova poézia sa stala významným vplyvom na mladého T. S. Eliota a Ezru Pounda, pričom jeho štýl bol v anglickej literatúre považovaný za inovatívny.

Patricia Terry was Professor of French Literature at Barnard College and the University of California San Diego. Her recent titles include Capital of Pain by Paul +luard (with Mary Ann Caws and Nancy Kline), Lancelot and the Lord of the Distant Isles: or, The Book of Galehaut Retold (with Samuel N. Rosenberg), The Sea and Other Poems by Guillevic, and a book of her own poems, Words of Silence. At present, in collaboration with Nancy Kline, she is working on an anthology of the poems and prose of Jules Supervielle (Black Widow Press 2011). She and Nancy Kline are also collaborating on a second volume of Jules Laforgue's work, Legends and Morals. --Book Jacket.
Jules Laforgue, né à Montevideo, s'installe en France à six ans. À 21 ans, il devient lecteur de français à Berlin, où il se marie. Sa révolution esthétique commence avec "Imitation de Notre Dame la Lune" et se termine avec "Derniers poèmes". Il est une figure clé de la poésie française du XIXe siècle, aux côtés de Rimbaud et Verlaine.
Jules Laforgue (1860-1887) gilt als Dichter des Symbolismus. Max Brod schreibt im Vorwort dieser Ausgabe: Wir treten in sein Werk ein wie in eine merkwürdige Bühne, umgeben von den unwahrscheinlichsten und heftigsten Theaterdekorationen, wir wandeln zwischen ironischen Kulissen, drolligen Effekten, unmöglichen Menschen .... Laforgues Gedichte und Prosa sowie die Posse Pierrot, der Spaßvogel sind hier in den Übersetzungen von Franz Blei und Max Brod wieder zu entdecken.
