Public interest, both domestically and internationally, in the role of Obersalzberg during the Third Reich remains strong even 70 years after the end of the most devastating war in history. The number of informational publications continues to grow. The Berchtesgaden Foundation has taken the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of the war's end to release a brochure about the events at Obersalzberg. Professor Ernst Hanisch from the University of Salzburg, a historian with profound knowledge of National Socialist history, serves as the author. The focus is on a realistic, unbiased, and balanced presentation of events. Obersalzberg was not a mountain idyll or an island of forgetfulness amidst the world's turmoil. It was the residence of Adolf Hitler, whose ruthlessness, obsession with power, and racial delusions led to war and destruction, as well as the persecution and murder of countless individuals. Here, decisions were made that sealed the fate of millions and continue to have repercussions worldwide. The reader should always keep this in mind. Seventy years do not diminish the guilt of the leaders of that time. There must be no forgetting!
