What would it mean for choreography to function as an exhibition? This question drives a newly commissioned project by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, who reimagines her stage piece Vortex Temporum, set to Gérard Grisey's music, for the unique conditions of an art space. Instead of merely relocating a dance performance, De Keersmaeker transforms the choreography into a nine-week exhibition, altering the fundamental elements of dance, including its rigorous structure and language. This innovative approach highlights the complex conceptual, technical, and physical labor that underpins her work. Accompanying the exhibition is a multi-volume boxed catalogue designed to document the project throughout its duration. The first set of volumes introduces Work/Travail/Arbeid, detailing its preparation and connection to Vortex Temporum. Following the exhibition, a second set reflects on its evolution. The catalogue features a re-edited version of the original Vortex Temporum program book, photographic documentation by Babette Mangolte and Anne Van Aerschot, drawings by De Keersmaeker, and newly commissioned essays by notable writers. The exhibition took place at Wiels in Brussels, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and Tate in London.
