Focusing on the medieval interactions between Norse and Saami peoples, this interdisciplinary study employs postcolonial methodologies to reassess their portrayal in historical texts. It critiques the need to decolonize medieval source materials and historiography, providing a comprehensive overview of relevant texts from the classical period to the late 1400s. The analysis highlights motifs associated with the Saami, their geopolitical and trading relations, and their dynamic presence in Norse society, ultimately challenging colonial assumptions and emphasizing Saami agency and fluidity in history.
