Soon Ok Lee worked as a supervisor in a distribution center in North Korea. As a loyal member of the Communist Party, she dedicated herself fully to her country and its revered leader. She fell from grace after refusing to cooperate with the self-enrichment of greedy officials. Soon Ok Lee survived six years in North Korean labor camps, where she continued to give her best efforts despite the harsh conditions. In a rare exception, she regained her freedom in 1992.
