The book delves into the increasing presence of Chinese baristas in Italian coffee bars, a space traditionally associated with Italian culture and social life. It examines how these establishments, crucial to urban life, are now managed by Chinese immigrants since the 2008 Great Recession. Through ethnographic research in Bologna, the author reveals how this immigrant group utilizes local knowledge and family labor to maintain the espresso tradition. This phenomenon challenges Eurocentric narratives, highlighting complex cultural dynamics and racial identities in a pluralistic society.
