Banaras, Varanasi, Kashi: India’s sacred city along the Ganges holds profound significance for Hindus, symbolizing the ultimate promise of liberation from reincarnation through purification by fire. As the manager of a death hostel, Pramesh aids the dying and their families as they prepare for the funeral pyres on the ghats. After a decade in this timeless city, he has nearly convinced himself that there is no past or future, living contentedly with his wife Shobha, their daughter Rani, the hostel priests, and his endearing but clumsy assistant. However, everything changes when a body resembling Pramesh is pulled from the river—his cousin Sagar, with whom he shared a deep bond in childhood. Their paths diverged when Pramesh sought a life beyond their village, leaving Sagar to tend the land. After Pramesh marries Shobha against family wishes, a rift forms between them, one he hoped to forget. Yet, Sagar’s unexpected return disrupts their lives, casting a shadow over the family’s stability. As an unwelcome presence lingers in the hostel and the dying inexplicably cling to life, Pramesh must confront his beliefs about death, rebirth, and redemption.
