The 2016 peace agreement in Colombia aimed to end decades of conflict but faced rejection in a divisive referendum influenced by disinformation. Gwen Burnyeat, a political anthropologist, worked with the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace to develop a unique "peace pedagogy" strategy to communicate the agreement. Her ethnographic study highlights the difficulties officials encountered in engaging a skeptical public and emphasizes that emotional and cultural factors, rather than rational arguments, shaped political opinions, reflecting broader challenges to liberalism in today's world.
