Set against the backdrop of an impending meteor shower, a veterinary practice becomes the center of intrigue following the hit-and-run death of a local man and the arrival of a caravan of young vendors. Dimpna Wilde encounters Brigid Sweeney, a young woman with blood-stained clothes and a wounded hare, who hints at a sinister connection to a mysterious stranger. The discovery of Brigid's gruesomely staged death, complete with a severed hand and a rabbit's foot, leads Dimpna and Detective O'Brien into a web of jealousy and deeper, darker motives, raising the stakes in their investigation.
