Robin Lockwood, a young criminal defense attorney and partner at a prominent Portland law firm, has a unique background as a former MMA fighter and Yale Law graduate. She joined the firm of legal legend Regina Barrister just before Regina's early onset Alzheimer's forced her retirement. One day, Robert Chesterfield, a former client of Regina's, arrives with an unusual request for help in securing patent protection for a new illusion. Chesterfield, a well-known magician, has a complicated past; two decades earlier, he was arrested for two murders, one attempted murder, and was implicated in the suspicious death of his wealthy wife. Regina had successfully defended him, allowing him to continue his career in Las Vegas. Now, as he prepares to unveil his latest trick, he mysteriously disappears at the performance's conclusion. With a dark history and numerous enemies, Robin must investigate whether his disappearance is linked to those who resent him. Did he meet a violent end, or has he cleverly orchestrated his own vanishing act?
