Sir Charles Sheridan, the amateur scientist and photographer, meets American writer Kate Ardleigh, now residing in England, yet again at the scene of murder. Daisy, Countess of Warwick, invites them both to a weekend party, which also includes the Prince of Wales (Daisy's latest lover).
