Regan and Jack Reilly decide to celebrate their first wedding anniversary at a beach house on Cape Cod, seeking peace and privacy. However, a storm disrupts the tranquility of the area, which typically comes alive in summer. As rain lashes the house and trees bend dangerously, Regan is content to watch from the window. But things take a turn when Jack returns from shopping with two curious neighbors, whose window was broken by a falling branch and have nowhere to go. Just when it seems things can't get worse, a frightened young man, who looks after the house off-season, arrives with news that a neighbor, Adele Hopkins, has fallen down the stairs at the beach. Jack and Regan rush to help, only to find that Adele is missing and the beach is flooded. Everyone believes the water has swept her away. Who is Adele Hopkins? Regan and Jack begin their search to help the homeowners find her family. A clue leads them to a shop run by two girls, where Adele is mentioned online. Will they uncover the truth about her disappearance? It seems their anniversary celebration will be anything but peaceful.
