Focusing on the interplay between theory and practice, this volume explores Systemic Functional Linguistics as a practical approach to literature, tracing its historical roots and development. It details the emergence of Systemic Functional Stylistics, particularly Ruqaiya Hasan's Systemic Socio-Semantic Stylistics, while connecting it to Jakobson's concepts of poetic function and parallelism through an analysis of D.H. Lawrence's poem "Bei Hennef." Additionally, it discusses teaching language in literature using these frameworks, including a case study from an undergraduate EFL program in Bologna.
