Building on her series featuring forensic sculptor Eve Duncan, bestselling suspense writer Iris Johansen takes a different tangent with her latest thriller. The search and rescue team of Sarah Patrick and her golden retriever, Monty, first appeared in The Killing Game, where they helped track down a kidnapped child and a killer. Now, John Logan, a billionaire who lost Eve to Joe Quinn, needs Sarah and Monty's talents for a dangerous mission. Although rescue work has its rewards, it takes an emotional toll on them both. Initially protective of Monty, Sarah is quick to refuse Logan's request, but he uses his resources to coerce her into accepting the mission, threatening her job and peace of mind. They must find a kidnapped scientist in Colombia, held by a ruthless killer seeking revenge on Logan. After Monty is injured during the rescue, Sarah's resentment toward Logan grows. Once back at her cabin, she struggles to make him leave due to his wounds. Logan's debt to her takes an unexpected turn, leaving Sarah stunned and confused. Meanwhile, Logan knows that his nemesis, Rudzak, will come after Sarah. As they confront their emotions, a spark ignites between them, leading to a passionate connection. When Rudzak's threat looms, both must risk everything to protect what they hold dear and seek the happiness they are just beginning to realize.
