The study investigates the Mpemba effect within a colloidal system, revealing that an initially hot particle in a water bath can cool faster than a warmer one. By employing a double-well potential with optical tweezers, the author uncovers the inverse Mpemba effect, where the colder sample achieves thermal equilibrium at a higher temperature first. These findings align with theoretical predictions from the Fokker-Planck equation, demonstrating that under specific conditions, both effects can manifest significantly, allowing for rapid relaxation to bath temperature.
