Set during the Civil War, the story follows Boyd Houston, a Confederate soldier who trades his peaceful life for the battlefield. After a disastrous encounter with Union forces, he is wounded and captured, finding himself recuperating in the home of a local resident. There, he encounters two women: Nellie, a beautiful slave, and Lexus, an affluent local debutante. The narrative explores themes of love, loyalty, and the harsh realities of war, as Boyd navigates his complicated relationships amidst the backdrop of conflict and societal tensions.
