Exploring the northern soul scene, this book highlights how younger participants navigate claims of belonging amidst established notions of authenticity rooted in the 1970s. Through a three-year ethnographic study, it examines the discursive practices employed by young men and women as they engage with the scene's history. These practices reflect both individual and collective negotiations of identity within a multigenerational community, shedding light on the unique experiences of a generation striving to connect with a cultural legacy they did not directly experience.
