Viac o knihe
The book delves into the historical belief among English Christians that their nation had a divine mission to restore Jews to Palestine, tracing this ideology from the 1655 Whitehall Conference to the 1841 Jerusalem Bishopric debates. It argues that England viewed itself as "chosen" to support Jews without replacing Israel as God's elect nation. This belief shaped national identity, reflecting a desire for atonement for past wrongs against Jews and a means to interpret divine providence, intertwining apocalyptic prophecy with political action.
