Fifty years after the original crisis, a gripping sequel unfolds as a terrifying threat re-emerges. In 1967, an extraterrestrial microbe, known as The Andromeda Strain, nearly wiped out humanity, leaving only an elderly man and an infant boy alive in Piedmont, Arizona. A dedicated team of scientists from Project Wildfire managed to avert disaster just before a nuclear detonation. Over the decades, research continued, and the world believed it was safe. However, deep within Fairchild Air Force Base, Project Eternal Vigilance has been monitoring for any signs of the microbe's return. Just as the project faces shutdown, a Brazilian drone uncovers a bizarre anomaly in the jungle, revealing the tell-tale chemical signature of the deadly microparticle. This prompts the activation of a new Project Wildfire, sending a diverse team of global experts to investigate the potential apocalypse. As they race against time, the microbe begins to evolve. If the team fails to reach the quarantine zone and understand the anomaly, this new evolution of the Andromeda Strain could lead to the annihilation of all life on Earth.
