In South Africa during the mid-1970s, 16-year-old Mart Vermaak, the daughter of affluent Afrikaners, grows up in a sheltered and idyllic environment. However, as political unrest begins to seep into her world, she is confronted with the realities of a society in turmoil. The story explores Mart's journey of self-discovery and the challenges she faces as she navigates her privileged upbringing against the backdrop of a changing nation. Themes of innocence, societal expectations, and the loss of childhood are woven throughout her experiences, ultimately leading her to question her identity and beliefs in a time of upheaval.
