In the spring of 1919, as the threatening waters of the Blackwater River inundate the small town of Perdido in northern Alabama, the wealthy Caskey clan faces the devastation of their sawmills, the loss of timber, and the immense damage caused by the relentless flood. Led by the formidable matriarch Mary-Love and her devoted son Oscar, the Caskeys prepare to rebuild their lives. However, their plans are disrupted by the sudden and mysterious arrival of a captivating stranger, Elinor Dammert, a young woman with a troubled past. Her sole aim appears to be securing her place among the Caskeys, bringing with her a wave of intrigue and potential upheaval. As the floodwaters rise, so too do the tensions and secrets that threaten to engulf the family.
