The Baroque period is characterized by an artistic style that emphasizes exaggerated motion and clear detail to evoke drama, tension, and grandeur across various forms, including sculpture, painting, architecture, literature, dance, and music. Emerging around 1600 in Rome, Italy, it spread throughout Europe, largely supported by the Catholic Church, which sought to convey religious themes with emotional engagement in response to the Protestant Reformation. The aristocracy embraced the dramatic elements of Baroque art and architecture as a means to impress and demonstrate power. Baroque palaces feature grand entrances, opulent staircases, and lavish reception rooms, with notable examples like the Palace of Versailles and St. Peter's Basilica. This era also boasts hidden treasures in Europe and the New World, including magnificent libraries, scientific vaults, and intricate gardens, alongside exquisite porcelain and illusionistic paintings.
