   Im Nachhinein erschien uns nun die vom Verlagshaus Actes Sud vorgegebene Herauslösung des Berichtes der Rückblende auf Diotimas Jugend nicht mehr als eine „Amputation“, sondern als eine sinnstiftende eigenständige Veröffentlichung. Unsere eigene Annäherung an diesen Text erklärt, warum wir Okou Dagou um ein ausführliches Nachwort gebeten haben, das die schrittweise Entdeckung der Sinnstufen in Bauchaus narrativer Prosa nachvollzieht. Ist Henry Bauchau darum ein schwieriger Autor? Wir meinen, nein. Keiner muss Diotima und die Löwen mit unseren Augen lesen. Es ist das Schöne an der Literatur, dass ihre Deutungen frei, wenngleich niemals beliebig sind. Der Autor lässt seine Figuren in einem der gehobenen Alltagssprache abgelauschten Stil erzählen, in dem das Passé composé oder das Präsens an die Stelle von Passé simple und Imparfait getreten sind. Damit illustriert er sinnfällig, dass auch komplexe Gedankengänge in einer leicht fasslichen Sprache vorgebracht werden können, die eine sukzessive Annäherung tieferer Verständnisebenen ermöglicht.
