Art and politics are interconnected through the concept of repetition, which shapes both realms by establishing practices that reveal their relationship. This volume explores how aesthetic and cultural phenomena can instigate change in non-aesthetic realms precisely because they are seen as "mere" repetitions. Repetition influences artworks through processes like reproduction, copying, and reenactment, allowing mimetic art to engage with the political and social world. The text examines when mimetic works can act as catalysts for political and social transformation, and how practices such as performative gender constitution and propaganda, which affirm visibility regimes, can be understood as transformative processes. It also investigates the interplay between commemorative cultures and documentation practices, as well as how historical reality is produced through mimesis in pursuit of an imagined political future. By analyzing a diverse range of artworks across different historical periods, places, and media—from Hegel's Aesthetics to contemporary applied theater and the Gezi Park Uprising in 2013—this volume illustrates how the concept of change through repetition can redefine the relationship between art and politics, highlighting the transformative potential of repetition in political art.
