    Duncan Forbes bol škótsky lingvista, ktorý sa špecializoval na orientalistiku. Napriek neskorému začiatku v gramotnosti a lingvistike sa preslávil svojimi publikáciami a prekladmi z perzštiny, urdčiny a arabčiny. Forbesov hlavný prínos spočíval v sprístupnení a katalogizácii rozsiahlych zbierok perzských rukopisov, čím významne prispel k pochopeniu a štúdiu týchto jazykov a literatúr na Západe. Jeho práca sa zameriavala na klasickú orientálnu literatúru a lingvistiku.
