For many years, my children and students have urged me to write, but I always felt too busy. Joy Manné encouraged me to contribute articles to 'The Healing Breath,' prompting me to share my experiences beyond teaching. Since starting as a breathwork therapist and trainer in 1978, I have been inspired by the diverse clients and students who have enriched my life. Each interaction has deepened my understanding and skills as a therapist. In the late seventies, I met Hans Mensink at a rebirthing gathering. Despite our differences, we decided to collaborate, driven by our enthusiasm for the Connected Breathing Technique. We aimed to teach it effectively, leading to the creation of a comprehensive training program in 1979 that evolved into a three-year course. Our partnership has been a stable and miraculous aspect of our lives. This training has been a profound learning experience for both students and myself, emphasizing the importance of self-development for therapists. Understanding one’s emotions, strengths, and vulnerabilities is crucial for creating a safe therapeutic environment. Just as clinical psychologists undergo extensive training, breathwork therapists must also engage in deep self-exploration. Our program teaches breathwork fundamentals, the 'Psychology of Selves' for relationship dynamics, 'Voice Dialogue' as a complementary technique, and basics of Neuro Linguistic Programming and Polarity Massage.
