Until the opening of the Humboldt Forum, some eighty masterpieces of African sculpture will set foot on Museum Island to engage European works of Art in dialogue. Experimental juxtapositions and groupings of works according to themes such as the “others”, aesthetics, gender, protection, performance, and death reveal the connections and differences among these works of art. Presenting these sculptures, with their different histories, together reveals new perspectives on both collections.

Bis zur Eröffnung des Humboldt Forums treten auf der Berliner Museumsinsel 80 Hauptwerke afrikanischer Skulptur in den Dialog mit europäischen Bildwerken. Durch experimentelle Gegenüberstellungen und Gruppierungen zu Themen wie die „Anderen“, Ästhetik, Gender, Schutz, Performance und Tod werden Zusammenhänge und Unterschiede deutlich. Doch was bedeutet es, Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede festzustellen? Durch die gemeinsame Präsentation von Kunstwerken mit unterschiedlichen Geschichten aus zwei Kontinenten entstehen neue Sichtweisen auf beide Sammlungen und ihre Meisterwerke.

The book „The Lost Museum“ highlights the loss of the Berlin paintings and sculptures in a row of the 2nd World War. In the days to the end of the war two fires in the anti-aircraft bunker Friedrichshain destroyed numerous works of art that were there to protect outsourced, including masterpieces of the collections among others by Caravaggio and Rubens. Using photos with explanatory texts the lost masterpieces of the Berlin sculpture and painting collections are re-entered the public consciousness.

Das Buch „Das verschwundene Museum“ beleuchtet die Verluste der Berliner Gemälde- und Skulpturensammlungen in Folge des 2. Weltkriegs. In den Tagen um das Kriegsende zerstörten zwei Brände im Flakbunker Friedrichshain zahlreiche Kunstwerke, die dorthin zum Schutz ausgelagert waren, darunter Spitzenwerke der Sammlungen u. a. von Caravaggio und Rubens. Anhand von Fotos mit erläuternden Texten werden die verlorenen Hauptwerke der Berliner Skulpturen- und Gemäldesammlungen wieder ins Bewusstsein der Öffentlichkeit gerückt.
