form International
Issue 01
Design is intrinsically linked to humanity, serving as both emotional mirrors and practical aids that impact ecological and social contexts. This issue features 35 contributions from the last three years of form magazine, critically exploring various design topics. It includes essays, features, and photographic works that offer vital perspectives, addressing themes from decolonisation to feminist and queer issues. The content balances media theory with artistic and activist viewpoints, showcasing emerging fields like bio- and gender design alongside traditional product and graphic design. Notable contributors include food designer Marije Vogelzang, stylist Julie Pelipas, and biodesigner Natsai Audrey Chieza, among others. The issue also highlights the forgotten designer Otto Zapf, colonial artefacts in La Réunion, industrial design in the German Democratic Republic, and topics such as feminism and technology, non-human design, ableism, and beauty standards. Contributions come from a diverse range of voices, including Anna Dorothea Ker, Anton Rahlwes, and many more, reflecting a rich tapestry of contemporary design discourse. Released in April 2023, the publication spans 354 pages and is available in softcover format.
