Utopický román anglického spisovatele 18. století, pod rouškou imaginárního cestopisu, satiricky líčí poměry v Anglii, kritizuje civilizaci a relativizuje sílu lidského rozumu. Původní název zněl „Cesty k rozličným národům světa . . . “ a je rozdělen do čtyř dílů s epickými záhlavími. Fiktivní předmluva vydavatele Sympsona a dopis autora, kapitána Lemuela Gullivera, podtrhují fikci pravdivosti, doplněnou mapkami a portrétem Gullivera. V I. dílu „Cesta do Liliputu“ se Gulliver ocitá mezi trpaslíky, ve II. dílu „Cesta do Brobdingnagu“ mezi obry. III. díl „Cesta do Laputy, Balnibardi, Luggnaggu, Blubbdubdribu“ představuje alegorii vznášejícího se ostrova Laputa, symbolizující teoretické myšlení a uzavřenou aristokracii, a obraz upadajícího státu Balnibardi. Gulliver zde mluví se slavnými muži minulosti a poznává nesmrtelné Struldbrugy. IV. díl „Cesta do země Hvajninimů“ zkoumá výměnu sociálních rolí mezi koňmi a lidmi, kdy lidé, Jahuové, slouží ušlechtilým zvířatům. Gulliver prožívá různá dobrodružství a po mnohaleté cestě se vrací domů. Putování po imaginárních ostrovech slouží jako záminka k kritice domácích poměrů a evropské kultury, přičemž autor rýsuje projekt ideálního zřízení.

Swift zahaľuje neradostnú prítomnosť do alegórie, aby potom ostrým bičom svojej satiry mohol neľútostne šľahať a pranierovať spoločenské, morálne, politické i náboženské nedostatky Anglicka 18. storočia.

V tretej časti knihy Gulliver navštívi lietajúci ostrov, ostrov čarodejníkov a tiež Krajinu koní.

Ve svém krátkém pamfletu předkládá Jonathan Swift "skromný návrh" na řešení situace dětí z nejchudších vrstev tak, aby se staly pro společnost prospěchem a nikoli přítěží. S velmi kousavým a velmi černým humorem rozvádí myšlenku, jejímž základem je proměna těchto dětí ve vybrané lahůdky pro bohaté. Skandální text je tak vyhrocenou, ostře satirickou sociální metaforou.

Der dritte Band bringt den vollständigen Text von "Gullivers Reisen".Die für Band I und II ausgewählten Schriften wurden neu übersetzt. Für Band III wurde eine ältere Übersetzung benutzt, die jedoch gründlich revidiert wurde. Einleitung und Anmerkungen ergeben einen wissenschaftlichen Kommentar, der die neuesten Ergebnisse der Swift-Forschung berücksichtigt. Damit liegt die erste philologische Swift-Ausgabe in deutscher Sprache vor. Herausgeber ist der Berliner Anglist Anselm Schlösser.
