Focusing on the electrolytic surface hardening process, this book explores a novel technique for enhancing the wear resistance of medium carbon steel AISI 1050 while maintaining its internal softness and toughness. It highlights the advantages of surface hardening over traditional through hardening, such as reduced costs and minimized distortion. The author details the construction of a specialized apparatus for systematic investigations, aiming to uncover the potential and effectiveness of this innovative heat treatment method.

    • The research work was undertaken to examine the influence of combination of minimum quantity lubrication and liquid nitrogen (MQL+LN2) on the grinding behavior in different grinding processes. The concept of this cooling system is based on freezing oil-droplets on the grinding wheel circumference using liquid nitrogen. The temperature development in the contact was evaluated using a new analysis concept. The supplying parameters of the proposed cooling system were studied and optimized in surface, circular and non-circular grinding processes. The proposed cooling system was compared to different cooling systems.
