David Ross Brower bol popredný ekológ a zakladateľ mnohých environmentálnych organizácií. V mladosti bol významným horolezcom. Založil Sierra Club Foundation, John Muir Institute for Environmental Studies, Friends of the Earth, League of Conservation Voters, Earth Island Institute, North Cascades Conservation Council a Fate of the Earth Conferences.
