Marocký spisovateľ Tahar Ben Jelloun (nar. 1944) je dnes významným predstaviteľom súčasnej francúzskej literatúry. Píše poéziu i prózu. Publikovať začal roku 1973. Autorovou prvotinou bol román Harrouda. V roku 1987 získal Goncourtovu cenu za ďaľší román Svätá noc, ktorý vyšiel aj v slovenskom preklade (Slovenský spisovateľ, 1993). Ako esejista sa tento zaujímavý a osobitý autor predstavil našim čitateľom reflexiou života a diela sochára Alberta Giacomettiho (vydavateľstvo Q 111, 1992, edícia Tajné múzeá). Vo svojej najnovšej práci Deťom o rasizme (1998) sa Tahar Ben Jelloun dotkol mimoriadne pálčivej témy na celej planéte. Čo je rasizmus, prečo majú ľudia predsudky, čo je diskriminácia, otroctvo, apartheid, aké sú príčiny týchto negatívnych javov a najmä ako sa proti nim brániť, o tom všetkom sa dočítate v tejto rozsahom neveľkej, zato obsahom veľmi potrebnej knižke určenej nielen deťom, ale predovšetkým ich rodičom.
