Svoju kariéru začala v skladoch v Daryaganj pri výbere kníh pre sieť kníhkupectiev, potom pracovala ako výskumná redaktorka pre oddelenie kultúry indickej vlády a následne v vydavateľskom priemysle ako editorka pre rôzne vydavateľstvá. Tieto rôznorodé skúsenosti jej poskytli jedinečný pohľad na literárne dielo aj na knižný trh.
