This volume offers the first systematic exploration of emotional prosody processing in non-native English speakers. While emotional prosody has garnered attention across various fields, research on non-native speakers remains scarce, creating a significant knowledge gap as the global population of non-native English speakers is projected to surpass that of native speakers by 2050. This work aims to bridge this gap by providing insights into the processing of emotions at multiple levels and presenting innovative methodological solutions. It begins with a conceptual background on emotion research and introduces a comprehensive, integrative paradigm that reconciles various theories, including the dimensional view, basic emotions, and appraisal theories. Following this theoretical framework, the volume empirically investigates these perspectives through experimental tasks. This multi-level approach offers a thorough understanding of how non-native speakers process emotional prosody in their second language. By delivering a critical, data-driven perspective on emotions in non-native English speakers, this volume makes a significant and timely contribution to the fields of emotional prosody processing, bilingual research, and emotion studies overall.
