Exploring the theme of creation, this choral work features nine songs for children's voices, solo soprano, and orchestra, drawing from 17th-century texts by Thomas Traherne and George Herbert, along with an 11th-century piece. The music contrasts bright and tumultuous movements, with a recurring descending string pattern that unifies the piece. Notable sections include playful elements reminiscent of Britten's work and a serene conclusion that encourages faithfulness. The final movement concludes with the resonant sound of high bells, encapsulating the piece's emotional depth.
