Er ist einer der ganz Großen seines Fachs und selbst schon Legende: der wohl berühmteste türkische Fotograf Ara Güler. In seinem Heimatland wurde er mit dem Titel 'Fotograf des Jahrhunderts' geehrt; für das New Yorker Museum of Modern Art gehörte er bereits 1968 zu den 'zehn Meistern der Farbfotografie'. Mit seiner Leica bereiste er die ganze Welt, seine große Leidenschaft aber galt immer seiner Heimatstadt Istanbul.
