L'episodio non sconvolse solo il paese di Montecchìa di Crosara, la località veneta apparentemente tranquilla e dal benessere crescente negli anni ottanta dove si era verificato il delitto, ma tutta l'Italia che non seppe darsi ragione dell'accaduto. Eppure non sarà un caso isolato. Episodi del genere si ripeteranno, non ultimo quello celebre di Erika e Omar, i due fidanzatini adolescenti che uccisero la madre e il fratellino di lei, con predeterminazione e spietatezza. Ma come è possibile arrivare a tali livelli di violenza, a maggior ragione all'interno del nucleo familiare? Quale sistema di valori fa sprigionare questa furia omicida e che ruolo vi gioca il contesto sociale e culturale? Bettin, con una narrazione in presa diretta, che si legge come un romanzo, offre alcuni spunti di riflessione acuti e di straordinaria attualità su queste vite "normali" ma dagli esiti atroci.
